John Waring

Former Waring Group 

John Waring passed away in mid 2015, He was the founder of the Waring Group (Rakshas Pty Ltd) 

John formed Jorgenson Waring Pty Ltd in 1965 and Rakshas Pty Ltd in the same year and subsequently sold Jorgenson Waring Foods to public company, Joe White Malting in 1987.  

John was heavily involved in investments and production in Vietnam, working directly with Government and private facilities and has been awarded a prestigious medal by the Vietnamese Government not only for opening new markets in Vietnam but also improving workers and factory facilities, encouraging workers hygiene practices and employing large numbers of Vietnamese people. In 2014 John was awarded the Golden Nut award from the INC.

John was a father of four, a grandfather of 13, and was a member of the Melbourne Cricket Club for 50 years and a member of the Royal Melbourne Golf Club.  John enjoyed the gym, football and horseracing and was  an owner, as well as a member, of some horse racing syndicates.


Michael Waring

Chairman / CEO 

Michael formed MWT Foods in 1990 and is the Group Chairman and the Managing Director of the company. Additionally, Michael is CEO of the Waring Group which includes investments in Australia, Vietnam and The USA, and is the Chairman of MWT Foods USA LLC (based in Oregon, USA). He is the Managing Director of MWT Agri Services, Macadamia farm management and services provider, and is a member of the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee and Vice Chair for The International Nut and Dried Fruit Foundation Council ‘INC’.

Michael is also a founding Management Committee member of ‘Nuts for Life Australia,’ a nutrition and health education initiative aiming to provide information about the health benefits of tree nuts. He is also Director of the Australian Macadamia Society, chair of the Australian Macadamia marketing and promoting committee and a member of the Australian Institute of Directors.

Married to Caroline, with three school age children, Michael enjoys the occasional round of golf, suffers as a Melbourne Demons Supporter and has a lasting passion for 80’s Australian rock music. 



Andrew Waring


Manager Strategic Sourcing & Marketing

Trained in the hospitality industry, having studied in Switzerland and lived in Germany, Andrew Waring embarked on his trade career in July 1990 joining Michael Waring (brother) at MWT Foods, only six months after the business commenced. As a Co-founder of the MWT Foods business with Michael, and later with John Waring (father) and Christopher Waring (brother), Andrew remains active in all key accounts and directs and implements trading strategy within the Group.


Andrew initiated the Australian macadamia business to Europe from Australia in 1993 and with John Waring established the initial push of Australian Macadamia kernel to supermarket majors. Andrew also facilitated sales programs for Inshell Australian Almonds into India and China, and later kernel for Japan and Europe and emerging markets.  Instigating the MWT Foods macadamia “grower” procurement program in Australia in 1998, Andrew continues to drive the marketing and sales component of that business. He manages the company key industrial and retail packing accounts for MWT Foods. Andrew is responsible for the purchasing and sales of MWT Foods key product range including, but not limited to, full nut range, desiccated coconut and dried fruits. Ultimate responsibility for key market and product development and works closely with MWT Foods QA and QC departments in selection and recommendation of supplier facilities.


As Director and Manager Strategic Sourcing and Marketing, Andrew spends many months a year abroad auditing plants, assessing supply and negotiating with global suppliers & buyers, he has a respectful understanding of many different cultures.


Andrew is married with three children, is a disappointed (but hopeful) Melbourne Football Club supporter and has a passion for Bikram yoga.



Christopher Waring


Agribusiness Manager

After Jackarooing for several years on various sheep and cattle stations, Chris completed an Associate Diploma in Farm Management/Ag Science at Glenormiston Agri College. Chris then took over Managing Bulgary Station, the Waring Group Agri farm, in 1992. Bulgary Station consisted of 15.000 acres of sheep, cattle, crop and irrigation. In 2005 The Waring Group purchased Tinana Creek Plantations (TCP) where Chris took on the Directorship and Manager role of the plantation whilst still living at Bulgary Station. Bulgary Station was eventually sold in 2008. Chris has also worked in Vietnam with the Waring Group Investments on their processing facility and planning of the macadamia industry in Vietnam.  Chris officially started with MWT Foods in 2009, whilst still working at TCP, he then took over managing the macadamia procurement operations with Greg Ellis which includes buying nut in shell (NIS) from farm gate, day to day running, farm pickups, reporting to growers, consultation with service providers, liaisons with growers, opening of new grower regions for MWT to procure from, setting of strategies for program development etc. As Chris is a Waring he also has full involvement in operating and developing the company alongside his two brothers.

Chris is married with three children; he also takes care of two cats and a dog. He lives just outside  Wagga Wagga and loves swimming, cycling, running and gym, basically anything to do with triathlons. Cooking and gardening are his passions. Chris is actively involved in the local junior AFL Football Club with coaching and club committees. As a lad Chris rowed for University of Melbourne Boat Club and represented Victoria, also trying out for national selection. Chris's weakness is chocolate.



Greg Ellis

General Manager, Macadamia Division

Greg commenced working with MWT Foods in May 1995 and has an Advanced Certificate, Associate Diploma and Bachelor of Business in Accounting. Whilst studying and prior to his employment with MWT Foods, Greg was assistant manager of one of Melbourne’s largest coldstores, responsible for clearance, intake, storage, local and linehaul distribution of various food products into, through and from the freezer, chiller, ambient and dry storage facility. Greg also managed the bonded and quarantine areas of the warehouse.
Greg currently manages all local and international logistics for MWT Foods, where his responsibilities include the negotiation and management of all contracts for the supply of sea, air, road, rail, customs / quarantine clearances and warehouse services. Greg is also responsible for MWT Foods macadamia procurement programs, where his roles include grower / farm procurement, grower liaison, transport, storage, distribution and administration of the macadamia programs, from farmgate through to point of delivery. Greg is also involved in negotiation, maintenance and execution of purchase and sales contracts and enjoys expanded roles in treasury and insurance for the business.
Greg’s roles at MWT Foods allow him to combine skills gained from his studies with skills developed from his practical experience working in both transport and warehousing.
Greg enjoys tennis, where he previously coached juniors, Aussie Rules Football,  where his love is the Carlton Football Club, Rugby League, golf and water skiing.
Greg was born and bred in country Victoria, on the Murray River, but has lived in Melbourne most of life, now living just on the outskirts of Melbourne, with his two beautiful girls, Camryn and Ruby.



Rachael Smith

Food Safety, Quality and Organic Program Manager

Rachael completed a Bachelor of Communication in Advertising and Marketing, remaining in that industry for short time before deciding to re-train. Rachael has been with the Waring Group since 2000, initially gaining product understanding for our full range of nuts, dried fruits and desiccated coconut and developing key client and supplier relationships in the Trading department. Rachael then undertook a Diploma in Quality Management Systems, Lead Auditing and various other privately run food safety courses to become head of our food safety and quality assurance team. Working closely with trade, logistics and management she is proud to be able to listen to customer quality and safety briefs and be able to develop these with key suppliers to provide a unique quality advantage.

Rachael has been a vegetarian for 14 years, she and her three young children grow and eat their own organic fruit and vegetables and are living proof that meat can be replaced by the health benefits that nuts, dried fruits and legumes offer! Rachael also loves travelling, sipping a good cocktail and riding a fast horse.




.Nhung Hong

Vietnam Operations

Nhung was employed by MWT Foods in 2009. Educated in Singapore with a marketing degree,  Nhung brings local knowledge and experience to the MWT Foods operations in Vietnam. Nhung is operationally responsible for Quality Assurance under MWT Quality Assurance Manager Rachael Smith. Nhung works closely with MWT suppliers and customers in regards to the Vietnam supply chain and product requirements.
